Colombia & Venezuela Earthquakes: How To Help Our Fellow Frisbee Communities

Hi, I'm Daniel Prada, and I help organize frisbee around here. On August 10th, the 7.4 earthquake ravaged the entire western portion of Colombia. While my family in Calí thankfully experienced minor damage, the stories of loss and destruction continue to pour in. My aunt lost a high school friend that got crushed under a crumbling building with her twins alongside her, and friends of families have lost their cars, workplaces, and homes. No school, military curfew after 9pm, no electricity, no data, I had lost touch with family for roughly 36 hours.

The numbers are still counting but more than 12,000 homes have been destroyed and tens of thousands more damaged (reports cite ~65,000–75,000+ damaged). The dead and injured counts keep climbing (300 and 4,000 injured). For 90-120 eternal seconds, the floor felt like being on a boat, pushing thousands of lives into homelessness and disarray.

While I recommend volunteer/donate at Global Empowerment Mission as well as contribute to World Central Kitchen, as more formal bodies that are sending supplies/help, the goal of this article is to show you real efforts to help individuals from one Frisbee community to another, with small small, localized connections.

SFLUltimate Supplies/Drive

We're still working on finalizing, but we will be doing collections for blankets, medical supplies, and food at league which we will be mailing to the main frisbee organization in Cali.

Disco Volador del Valle's Fundraiser

La Liga del Disco Volador del Valle has organized a fundraiser where they will accept donations to the organization to help more than 10 members that have been impacted by this earthquake, from losing their material possessions, to their homes, to even their families (either dead or still have unknown whereabouts).

Aloha Ultimate's Fundraiser

Aloha Ultimate the Colombian mixed team that was runner-up at Colombian Nationals is also collecting donations to support players affected in Cali.

They are already greatly appreciative of contributions made by people right here in the United States to help the cause. Two of their players' homes have become uninhabitable and one other player lost their home completely.

Macana Ultimate's Fundraiser

Macana Ultimate, the 3-time Colombian National Champion & 2026 Panamerican Championship women's team from Medellín, is organzing a Vaki (the equivalent of a Colombian GoFundMe) to raise funds for two affected frisbee community members that lost most of their material belongings in the earthquake.

To all our Frisbee community:

This past 10th of August of 2026, an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.4, with epicenter at San José del Palmar (Chocó) shook the entire west of Colombia and the coffee-growing regions. El Valle del Cauca was the region most impacted, especially Cali and municipalities like El Cairo, Roldanillo, Buenaventura, and Zarzal, with hundreds of buildings destroyed or gravely destroyed, and impacts also felt in Pereira, Manizales, and Chocó. It has been one of the greatest emergencies that the country has lived in the past years, and many families lost their homes, their businesses, and everything they had.

From Macana, we are collaborating with the Federation to get a census of those impacted, and then we realized that the Liga del Valle has been most impacted in our community. For this reason we decided to focus our impacts on the following: two people that lost most of their belongings in the earthquake.

We understand that material goods are not the most important, but we believe that the help is what we can most do in the moment, concentrating in two cases where we can really make a huge difference, and where the community's international support could mean so much.

For this reason we invite you to become part of this. From Macana we guarantee that all resources will go to the correct people, and that we will optimize each Colombian peso to give the greatest help. Every donation is equally vital, even if small.

If you can't donate, you can at least help us by sharing this cause and giving it visibility.

If for any reason you cannot donate here, during Worlds there will be physical locations where Macana players can accept donations.

Venezuela

Spanglish, a mix of Venezuelan & Latin Women, have set up this fundraiser:

Hi everyone, we are part of Spanglish, a team of Venezuelan and Latin women here in the United States.

Since traveling to Venezuela is not possible for us right now, as active players, we want to do everything we can to support our families back home.

Three weeks ago, we got the news that we qualified for the Masters Nationals. We were very happy because this is a new experience for us. But yesterday, we made the hard decision not to go.

As many of you know, this Wednesday, June 24th, 2026, there were two earthquakes in Venezuela. The situation is very difficult for many of us. Some of our teammates have lost family members and missing family that still haven't been able to contact , friends we cannot reach, and pets that are alone in the emergency.

As a team, Spanglish decided that the money we saved for our 'team fee' will be sent to help our people in Venezuela.
