South Florida covers a large area; from Palm Beach all the way to the Keys is 133 miles, so feel free to skip around to the areas that seem close to you.
Ultimate Frisbee is typically a 7-on-7 co-ed game played on grass & turf (beach is typically varieties of 3v3, 4v4, and 5v5).
The objective of the game is to pass the disc to your teammates until one of them catches it in the end zone. Ultimate Frisbee is different from most other sports in that:

If you don't have cleats, running/tennis shoes can suffice, though it may cause some slipping as you run around. Some people prefer soccer cleats; others football/lacrosse cleats. It just depends what's comfortable for you!
For beach, barefoot or sand socks are recommended, depending on sand quality.
In Broward, SFLUltimate currently runs a Free Summer Beginner Pick Up on Wednesdays that welcomes you to come and play right in Plantation.

Further north, a pretty active group is in Pompano Beach plays at North Broward Park.
Further southwest in Doral there's a game at Doral Central Park.
Miami has tons of pickup games available, from Saturdays at Continental Park to weekdays at Armbrister Park to early mornings (think 6:15am) at the Village Green in Key Biscayne.
Typically, on Tuesdays for most of the year, the Peacock Park League runs games at Peacock Park for a fun mixed league. Their 12-week fall league starts on August 25th, so be sure to sign up before August 21st to get your spot!
Palm Beach's scene offers a competitive game at PGA National Park and a beach game at Singer Island that varies in time based on the time of year (due to sunset differences). Nearby in Boca Raton Community Church, there's a Saturday morning game.
In South Florida we currently offer a men's open team through El Niño.

Fiasco is the local Women's team.
Prior to COVID, the youth scene featured two teams that competed yearly at Janus, a tournament in January, going all the way to states. But since then this has taken a big hit and we're in the process of rebuilding.

SFUltimate
There's a good group of college teams, such as the University of Miami's Men's and Women's Ultimate teams, the Nova Southeastern University team.
During the winter and early spring, one of the best things about South Florida is playing on the beach. SFL Ultimate typically hosts a winter beach league in parks located in Broward.
Besides hatters (which are one-off tournaments organized by local teams) SFLUltimate runs a tournament called Beach Bash which brings in teams from out of town to join to compete.
